Emphasizing Generator’s collaborative spirit, Ester Bruzkus from Ester Bruzkus Architects, Mark Asipowicz from WAF Architects worked together to transform two 19th century office buildings into Generator Berlin Mitte, with creative guidance and styling from DesignAgency. Vibrant communal spaces include a social café and canteen, a chill-out library, a bar and a cool, subterranean, sky lit gallery and event space. The reception and café are connected by French artist Sebastian Preschoux’s colourful string installation, and Bella May Leonard from the UK was commissioned to produce the crocheted stainless steel G sculpture.
In the dramatic & spacious corridors, famed Berlin street artist Thierry Noir created three-metre high faces, colour coded for each floor, reminiscent of his poetic murals on the Berlin wall. These lead to a wide selection of room options that carry through design themes from the social areas reinterpreted in a basic and quiet manner. In addition to dorms, there are twins—all with en suite bathroom facilities.
